Modern radiation therapy facilities

The treatment facilities are designed as seamless entities. The imaging facilities related to the treatment pathway are centralised to reduce the patient’s need to move around the hospital. To improve the treatment experience, nature-themed pictures have been placed in the premises. The nature theme focuses on forests, vegetation and animals. Spirit animals are featured on the entrance doors of the radiation treatment rooms.

Oulu University Hospital’s radiation therapy unit is the only radiation therapy unit in Northern Finland. The new radiotherapy bunkers (6 units) are capable of delivering even more effective radiotherapy with new radiotherapy equipment. The walls of the radiotherapy bunkers are made from heavy concrete with a thickness of 0.8–1.0 metres to ensure sufficient radiation protection.

The narrow plot between Oulu City Hospital and the multi-storey car park has influenced the building’s architecture. The exterior architecture is characterised by façades with warm-toned wood cladding around the customer entrances. The light-coloured concrete and steel sheet façades match the look of the adjacent buildings.
