WHAT wE DID
Architectural design
The Konttilan tupa group home in Oulainen is a residence designed for 22 senior citizens. In addition to the residential spaces, the group residence includes common and auxiliary areas for residents, as well as staff facilities and offices.
The building is shaped like the letter H. The two longitudinal residential wings are connected by a transverse building mass containing common areas. The central corridors of the residential wings are given a sense of rhythm by the colouring and the recesses near the entrances to the residences. The transverse pitch of the building’s roof rises high, providing the building with a distinctive upright appearance. Red slating was used for the wooden cladding on the façade, except in the intermediate section, which uses horizontal boarding with a yellowish brown varnish.
