WHAT wE DID

Principal design, Architectural design

The new building houses a grocery store with a small restaurant and an online store pick-up point. There is also a fuel station next to the parking area.

K-Supermarket Knuutilankangas is located on the south side of the Oulujoki River near the Poikkimaantie bridge. On the north side of the river, about three kilometres away, is the Hiukkavaara residential area. The Knuutilankangas water tower is located on the southwest side of the plot. The Oulunsuu district and Lake Lämsänjärvi are located on the northwest side of Poikkimaantie. In the northeast, the plot is surrounded by forest. The building’s placement on the plot corresponds to the reference plan prepared by our office for city planning. The building’s lean-to roof rises towards the water tower.

According to the city plan, the façades on the sides of Poikkimaantie and Rapakiventie must incorporate brickwork, which is why they were made of burnt red brick. On other sides, the façades are made of dark grey sheet metal with varying surface textures. The entrances are located on the southwest side of the building. Orange façade cassettes were used to add contrast. The energy recycling heat pump supports the environmental friendliness of the building.
