Lumit, Kuopio High School of Arts - Interior Design

At the heart of the operations and premises of the upper secondary school is a stage that opens up in three directions, and the performances can be followed from the gym, dining room and staircase. A large part of the traffic inside the building takes place through the auditorium stairs, and they also act as a meeting place for students.

The auditorium stairs feature the central combination of the site’s interior design: wood and concrete. The hard and rugged concrete has been combined with wood in many different forms, such as veneer surfaces in doors, glued timber slab in furniture, panel cladding in walls and wood fibre board in suspended ceilings. In addition to wood and concrete, the basic elements of the colour palette are pure white, dramatic black and a metallic shade of champagne. Brighter accent shades are only used sparingly. The neutral and earthy colouring leaves plenty of room for the art produced by students.
